10,000 miles of pot-holes, bandits and strange borders... Oh, and it's the only Mongolian rally all for charity.
The Mongolia Charity Rally is a pan-continental drive across five mountain ranges, two deserts and more barren and inhospitable lands than you care to shake a gear-stick at. Starting in London, the final destination is the great Mongol capital of Mongolia, beyond the Gobi desert, Ulaanbaatar.
The idea is to get your self a sturdy steed, a group of friends and venture out in to the wilderness with nothing more than guile, intellect and blind luck to guide you. Sometime later, after many adventures you might reach your destination all in one piece. Then your (now not so sturdy) steed plus all your gear is donated to charity and you fly home!
Our route will be taking us through the dreaded M25, France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Russia (again) and then finally Mongolia.
Sounds simple?
Please help by sponsoring or donating much needed equipment.
Corporate sponsors also welcome.
The Rally is being organised by the team from Go Help. Go Help is a UK Charity which is dedicated to helping other Charities make the most of their fundraising activities. Go Help aim to involve the public in fundraising, and make sure that the projects they support have a tangible benefit to the target local community. Go Help let the donors decide what causes their money is spent on. Go Help try to spend as little as possible on administration, so more money reaches the people who really need it and more people can take part in their events.
The idea for Go Help began in winter 2006. A group of friends wanted to engage people in grass root charitable activities. Go Help feel that by involving donors this could promote the sustainability of projects which do not attract mainstream funding. Donors benefit from seeing where their money is being spent, whilst also having the opportunity to volunteer in organising the fundraising events, or in the charities we support.
However Go Help do not advocate 'charitable projects' where you are simply a paying tourist who 'volunteers' in some far off place only to feel that you are not able to participate. Often, your money would be better spent on employing local workmen to do the work, however Go Help want you to take an active role and we aim to do this by matching your skill set with charity needs.
Go Help is the vehicle to promote this and Go Help are at the beginning of the journey getting people out to some far off regions as part of a series of Charity Rallies. With your help the projects will grow and we hope to be able to work with a host of charities across the world.
